I went to White Sands National Monument. The white comes from gypsum. Gypsum is a common mineral that is rarely found in sand. White Sands is the largest gypsum dune field in the world! Different animals, such as lizards, camouflage themselves to white to match the sand. I had a fun time walking around on the sand. It was really hot, but the sand felt cool. Here are two pictures and a video of me sledding. Do you think it’s more fun to sled in the sand or snow?
thats cool sledding
Dear Owen,
It was cool sledding. I thought it was even more fun than sledding on snow!!!
That looks fun sledding on the sands
Dear Owen,
It feels like you are sledding in outer space. In fact, you can see it from space since it’s so big.

I wish I could play on the sand. How was the sand cool when the weather was hot? When it’s hot in Oregon, the sand gets hot. Is there something special about that sand?
Dear Jay,
The White Sands reflect, instead of absorb the sun’s rays.
From, Ethan
Dear Ethan – That’s a really interesting fact about the white sand. I never thought about the reflecting of the sun. Owen says it’s a quite feisty fact.
Ethan, me encanta tu blog ! Tu viaje fue muy divertido y aprendiste muchas cosas, ¿verdad? gracias a tu blog estoy conociendo Nuevo México 🙂 estas son mis fotos favoritas, me encantaría ver la arena tan blanca.

Dear Ethan,When you first started sand sledding did you fall off a lot? It looks so fun. How much spanish can you talk? My guess is about 67% What was your favorite place that you went?
Dear Phillip,
Yes, I did fall off a lot. I can speak 99% Spanish. I started Spanish Immersion when I was 3. I don’t really have a favorite place I went to, I liked them all. 😉
