Carlsbad Caverns

I went to Carlsbad Caverns. It was AWESOME! Jim White discovered it in 1898 and it became a National Park in 1930. Jim White was only 16 when he found it! Some of the caves are 750 feet underground.  We walked down a steep path to the bottom to explore The Big Room which covers 8.2 acres. 400,000 people visit the caves every year.  Did you know that scientists are studying the materials in the caverns to find a cure for diseases?

What do scientists think they’ll find way down there? How deep did you go? What is the difference between stalactites and stalagmites?

      Dear Jay,
We walked down 750 feet to the bottom on the cave. They are trying to find a cure for cancer. Stalactites are at the top of the cave hanging down and stalagmites are at the bottom sticking up.

    Dear Ethan,
This is a great picture of the cave. Did you see stalactites (rock formations hanging from the ceiling) and stalagmites (rock formations coming from the floor)? Can’t wait to see more pictures. Thanks for keeping us updated.

      Dear Mrs. Amri,
Yes, I did see both formations. I remember stalactites are sticking tight to the ceiling and stalagmites are standing tall and mighty.
